Create a Project from a Goal

Use a goal-based project when you are planning new work.

When to use this workflow

Use this workflow when:

• You are starting a new product initiative.
• You are planning a technical change before implementation begins.
• You want to turn a high-level idea into product and engineering specs.
• You want a structured plan before tasks are created.

How it works

1. Create a new project.
2. Describe the goal in plain language.
3. Opheleon clarifies anything material that is unresolved, and picks the planning path that fits the work.
4. Opheleon drafts the PRD overlay — the product behavior — when product scope needs working out.
5. Review the PRD overlay, give feedback for any changes, and approve it.
6. Opheleon drafts the Tech Approach overlay — the architecture and implementation plan.
7. Review the Tech Approach overlay, give feedback for any changes, and approve it.
8. Generate tasks from the approved implementation plan.

Product-driven vs tech-driven goals

You don’t have to choose a path — Opheleon reads your goal and decides which one fits:

• Goal → PRD → Tech Approach for product work where the requirements aren’t figured out yet. The PRD overlay is settled first and feeds the Tech Approach overlay.
• Goal → Tech Approach for tech-driven initiatives like refactors, migrations, and infrastructure work, or when you already have a concrete PRD. Opheleon skips the PRD overlay and goes straight to the technical approach.

Tips for writing a strong goal

A good goal should include:

• The problem you are trying to solve.
• Who the change is for.
• What outcome you want.
• Any constraints the team should know.
